Basra gas deal with Shell stalled

Negotiations on joint venture company to capture wasted natural gas have ended and project will be put to tender, said Iraqi Minister of Electricity.

BAGHDAD - A plan to capture and utilize massive amounts natural gas currently being burned away has apparently been scrapped after more than a year of negotiations between the Iraqi Oil Ministry and Royal Dutch Shell.

"They terminated the negotiations now," said Iraqi Electricity Minister Karim Hasan.
