UPDATE: Oil minister names new upstream deputy

Karim Hattab said he'll soon outline his exploration and production priorities as new deputy minister, following a seven-year stint in charge of the Oil Exploration Company.

Karim Hattab, the long-serving director general of Iraq's state-run exploration firm, confirmed he was appointed to fill a vacant deputy minister position responsible for handling exploration and production.

Iraqi Oil Minister Jabbar al-Luiebi has been handling the upstream portfolio since November, when he removed Dhia Jaffar, deputy minister for refineries at the time, and replaced him with Fayadh Nema, who had been the upstream deputy.
