Parliament jump-starts stalled oil corruption inquiry

Reconstituted investigative committee will focus on allegations that Australia's Leighton Offshore paid bribes to Iraqi officials, including former oil ministers.

BAGHDAD - Iraq's Parliament has re-launched a committee to investigate oil sector corruption - the latest in a series of attempts to hold senior officials accountable for allegedly taking bribes.

In a Jan. 17 order, Speaker Salim al-Jabouri tasked nine MPs from the Parliament's oil and finance committees to "investigate the media reports that accused the Oil Ministry's top officials of involvement in corruption."
