Interview: Iraq’s Minister of Electricity

Karim Waheed Hasan talks about increasing the power supply but being outpaced by demand, disputes with other ministries, worsening security and sectarianism and politics.

BAGHDAD - Across the country Iraqis switch from electricity off the national grid to that from personal generators to nothing at all. It can be confusing, especially when statistics show power generation and capacity has increased.

Iraq Oil Report posed this quandary to Karim Waheed Hasan, the minister of electricity. He also talked about whether he will stay on a minister in the new government and what is holding back his master plan (and what he's doing to manage it, like importing fuel and electricity from Iran).
