KRG plan responds to smuggling allegations

Kurdistan region announces formation of an oil security force and a ministerial committee to monitor oil and fuel trade, and affirms oil exports are only valid through northern pipeline.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) issued a series of orders on Tuesday in response to allegations that oil and fuel was being smuggled out of its territory into Iran. The KRG’s cabinet also used the occasion to renew its demands that Baghdad foot the bill for contractors developing oil fields in the semi-autonomous northern region.

“The KRG decided to place strict measures to stop any form of illegal oil trade through its borders by applying additional surveillance operations along the borders," said KRG Prime Minister Barham Salih.
