No Akkas gas to Syria

Kogas and the Oil Ministry have cancelled plans for temporary exports of Akkas gas to Syria, instead focusing on internal infrastructure development.

Iraq has altered the development plans for Akkas, a major gas field in restive Anbar province, after violence and instability in neighboring Syria appeared to complicate a major element of the project.

Akkas will not send gas to a Syrian processing facility, as originally contracted. Instead, gas will be processed on site, at a facility whose construction will be fast-tracked to begin as early as next year.
