Oil workers protest in Basra

BASRA - Hundreds of oil workers in southern Iraq have staged protests after disputes with their employers over overtime pay and demotions, sparking union leaders to call for a much-delayed labor law to be ratified.

It is the latest in an ongoing dispute between Iraqi laborers and the government that refuses to recognize them, which would be a major risk to any foreign investment, especially in the oil sector.
