Suicide bombing penetrates KRG security cordon

SULAIMANIYA - A suicide bomber detonated an explosive vest at a political rally in the Kurdish-controlled city of Khanaqin on Monday, killing at least 35 people and injuring more than 110, according to intelligence and health officials.

The attack took place inside the security cordon of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), whose military forces have generally succeeded at protecting the autonomous region from the mass-casualty attacks that have struck the rest of Iraq with increased frequency over the past year.
