This is the view from the US who wishes Iraq well. Sharastani and the Ministry of Oil have more than enough to challenge them with the development of the major fields in Iraq . With the two contracts they have to date and the several they can expect later this year they are doing a good job and should be complimented. However the obsession with denying the KRG rights to control the development of oil in KRG is hard to understand. As long as the central government controls the pipelines and the KRG consents to the sale of the oil by SOMO and the deposit of the funds in the central government account what is at stake is merely the right to negotiate the contracts.

The KRG has shown considerable skill and sophistication to date and should be allowed to proceed. There are too many other challenges to be deradlocked on this one.-

I have now been lectured by an individual with better knowledge than I have. Please admin - delete these two postings since they do no good to any case!

Kurdish and Iraqian friends!

I am sorry to say that the oil on kurdish ground might be under attack! A company named RAK is accumulating shares in the Norwegian company DNO and has contacted the management to buy a large number of shares that DNO owns.

Now, I don't have any information about Heritage who will run the Taqtaq field if they are under similar overtaking programs.

What might this lead to if RAK succeds? As I understand RAK is an only Sunni controlled investment company - how about Kurdistan if Bagdad can prove that they own virtually all exportable fields?

Then again Kurdistan will be in the hands of Baghdads likings or not likings!

This time it might be the time that kurds starts to invest in their own fields to keep the oil for the kurds or soon it might be out of your control!

No body will believe Mr. Jihad in saying the three technocrats from his ministry went to congrduale Mr. Burham Salih, the new prime
miister...This is absurd.!!
There are three aspects { out of others ) that need considering here :
1) Shahrastani won the questioning "debate" in parliament... both
by members and viewers. This is partly due to his clear
convincing answers... but also for the poor performance of the
questioner, who was clearly biased aiming at character
assasination, and ignorant of the basic technical nature of oil
operations. Many spokesme praised his answers right afterwards.
That is why many members who signed the questioning either did
not attend or left parliament during the silly questions about
frequent travels of the minister, !!and taking non Iraqi
   planes ?!
They missed the chance to raise serious questions facing the
oil sector. He was lucky to face such illiterates on oil
   affairs.
As to ousting the minister.... collecting signaters for
questioning is one thing, but for no confidence is another.
2) Coming election forcast will not be to KRG advantage, as the
emerging blocks will be less in favour of deals and compromise.
Do not forget that over 20 Kurdish members are expected to be
from the newly emerging Kurdish opposition !.
3) Having to concede on Kurkuk and failing to find export
outlet for KR oil, have lead Mr. Barzani recent outbursts
on bycotting coming national elections and keeping various
revinues of national nature, pushed presedent Talabani
to announce last week that he agreed with P.M. Maliki to resolve
   various pending issues.

I think this had lead to sending said delegation to try once more. As to the outcome....I believe that Maliky is buying time !!.

Yeah, who are these "people with principles and ethics" you are talking about? Is it Maliki who tried to get his brother off the hook recently when he was arrested trying to smuggle antiques out of Irak?

Or is it Shahristani, who faces a vote of no confidence for corruption and incompetence?

Iraq Oil Minister warns of revealing corruption cases

Monday, November 16, 2009 10:32 GMT

Iraqi Oil Minister Hussein Al Shahristani affirmed that his questioning is now behind him.
Removing his vote of confidence is the people’s call, he said.
Al Shahristani warned that he would unveil other cases of corruption but he did not delve further into details during his questioning session for lack of time.

look who is talking about "people with principles and ethics".

does smuggling oil out of iraq stand your standards of "principles and ethics"? becouse that is exactly what it is when u sell welth and riches of country without consulting the elected members of parliament.

Tore:
You should know better by now that people with principles and ethics will not bargain on matters related to the nation wealth&riches otherwise they will loose the people support. We have witnessed the recent questioning in Parliament and it was clear for most of Iraq Oil technocrats Iraq's Oil Minister scored high and victorious.

And the Virtue party is planning a vote of no confidence against Shahristani. Any connection here? Is Bagdad seeking kurdish support for him by giving something in return?
