Iran's president visited Iraq with the permission of America. This is an indication of an acknowledgement of reality, on the part of America. The reality is this: Iran is a key regional player, and is vital to the stabilization and prosperity of a future Iraq. It is also an acknowledgement that, as America disengages militarily, from active urban combat, over the next year, and retreats to military bases, for the long haul, with a Status of Forces Agreement in place, that Iraq must start to be treated as a sovereign nation. What better way to signal this than by allowing America's sworn enemy to make a state visit to Bagdad? Rather than being an example of the failure or Bush's doctrine, this is a calculated and shrewd political move, designed to give legitamacy to the Iraqi government, in the eyes of the world. This stengthens the Iraqis government, in it's continuing effort to control it's own country.

It is international law which states that the occupying forces have no right to impose laws which reflect their interests only, and do not reflect the interests of the occupied people and that such laws are null and void if any future elected Iraqi parliament declares them to be so.

Well, well, well. Part One of mission (almost) finally accomplished is just about wrapped up. And it only took about 4000 American lives (so far), a (currently) projected $3 trillion in total costs, hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqis, 4 million displaced Iraqis, and a totally shattered balance of power in the Middle East. Now upward and onward to Part Two--a status of forces agreement with U.S. military bases in Iraq for 100 years by January 1, 2009. Way to go President Bush!! You make me soooo proud to be an American.
