Iraq expands refineries

Iraq’s Oil Ministry officially opened the 10,000 barrels per day (bpd) unit at the refinery in Samawah, the capital of Muthanna province, part of the ministry’s efforts to increase fuel production.

Iraq’s refineries are mostly outdated and inefficient, producing sub-par qualities of fuel. They also are running below nameplate capacity due to a lack of supply of electricity and oil.
