Dear Sir,
Thank you for keeping us updated with the Oil Contracts Issue in Iraq. But, this my message is directed to Mr. Thamier Al-Gadhban in his capacity as head of the Maliki advisers. I do not want to re-emphazise the importance of oil exports as a source of development surpluses for the future of Iraq; Ghadbann khnows this. All enlightened Iraqis and oil experts know and cherish one crucial issue with respect to all past and present contract deals with giant foriegn Oil Companies, and that is who would control decisions on production of oil and its disposal? If the Iraqi Government has this right, then medium term technical contracts would be acceptable, as long as they are struck in terms of comparatiive, transperant and feasibility oriented analyses. Otherwise, contract deals which overlook these matters would mean just surrendering oil production to the infamous monopolies of the International Oil Companies, no matter how this would be disguised! Thank you. Kamil.
