Major turnout in contested Kurdish election

Despite glitches, election deemed a success with large voter turnout in what is a major stakes election for Iraq's Kurdistan Regional Government.

Jaza Ghareeb Ali stayed home Saturday. He’s been ill since head injuries during a 1982 imprisonment for opposing Saddam Hussein.

"I don’t have a good job because of my disease," said Ali, 49, of Suleimaniya, the sole breadwinner for a family of seven.

"Nobody helped me," he gave as the reason for not voting Saturday in local elections in Iraq’s northern Erbil, Suleimaniya and Dohuk provinces.

Ali is definitely among the minority.
