Iraq readies for AQI strike on oil sector

Iraqi Oil Police initiate measures to combat possible attack, especially along the northern export pipeline.

Iraq's security forces are preparing for terrorist attacks on the country's oil sector following an intelligence report passed on to security chiefs by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

Maliki told the security officials Sunday of intelligence "that al-Qaida in Iraq plans to launch attacks on the oil facilities in general and pipelines in particular," said Maj. Gen. Hamid Abdullah Ibrahim, the head of the Interior Ministry's Oil Police Directorate.
