Basra calls on oil companies to solve water crisis

The Basra governor wants to hold IOCs responsible for building treatment plants for a province starved of clean water.

BASRA - Basra officials are moving to hold foreign oil companies responsible for solving a long-standing and worsening water crisis in the province.

“Each company that wants to continue its work in the province must build a water purification station to produce potable water,” Basra Gov. Assad al-Edani said in a statement Friday. “If companies do not respond, we will take all the necessary actions to protect our people.”
