Iraq production surges after OPEC meeting

Oil Ministry unleashes latent capacity from state-run fields in July, more than compensating for production dips resulting from protests in southern Iraq.

Iraq's production rose by over 100,000 barrels per day (bpd) in July, following an OPEC meeting in which members paved the way for production increases.

Surging production at Iraq's state-operated oil fields more than compensated for disruptions caused by ongoing protests throughout southern Iraq, one of which impacted production at the super-giant West Qurna 1 field.
