Iraq seeks minority partners to develop massive Mansuriya gas field via state company

After terminating its contract with TPAO, the Oil Ministry is relying on the state-run Midland Oil Company to operate a key gas field — and is seeking private-sector partners.

Iraq's Oil Ministry is tasking the state-run Midland Oil Company (MdOC) to develop the Mansuriya field, estimated to hold 4.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, after unilaterally terminating a contract with the previous consortium, led by the Turkish Petroleum Corp. (TPAO).

The ministry is looking for international oil companies to take a minority stake in the project, which could ultimately produce as much as 300 million standard cubic feet per day (scf/d) of natural gas, according to an August 2019 letter from the Petroleum Contracts and Licensing Directorate (PCLD), which was obtained by Iraq Oil Report.
