With more oil assets threatened, KRG proposes truce

Federal forces are massing for a potential operation to take Feyshkabour, which would effectively end Kurdistan's independent pipeline exports.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has offered to "freeze the results" of its Sept. 25 independence referendum – the first formal proposal since the federal government 10 days ago reclaimed authority over Kirkuk province and other disputed territories.

With one federal paramilitary commander threatening to retake Feyshkabour – where the Iraqi, Turkish and Kurdistan export pipelines meet – it's unclear just how far Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi is planning to push back the KRG's line of control, and what the Kurdish response will be.
