Iraq advances U.S. oil deals ahead of Zaidi visit to Washington

BASRA - Iraq's Cabinet approved two contracts bringing American oil companies into the development of federal oil fields, advancing U.S. energy investments ahead of Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi's visit to Washington in July.

In its June 28 session, the Cabinet authorized two contracts for Halliburton to help develop the Nahr Bin Omar field in Basra, and approved a deal for HKN Energy to operate the Hamrin field in Salahaddin province, taking over from the state-run North Oil Company (NOC).
