Iraq's Federal Supreme Court has appointed an expert, Hamza al-Jawahery, to help evaluate the technical details of a seminal case regarding the balance of oil powers between the federal government and the Kurdistan region.

Jawahery, a former Oil Ministry official who has a well established history of criticizing the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and its oil policy, confirmed that he will be advising the court in a Tuesday evening phone call with Iraq Oil Report. A second senior Iraqi oil official and an industry official, both with knowledge of the court proceedings, also said Jawahery is the court-appointed expert.
