Basra protesters decry broken promises

BASRA - Hundreds of locals from about 20 different tribes staged a protest Monday near the West Qurna 2 oil field in Basra.

Basrawis have long complained that oil development has caused them to lose agricultural land, and that they have not been adequately compensated. Many expected to receive jobs at oil projects, but have not.
