AMARA - Security forces in Amara broke up a protest by unionized workers demanding better treatment, as tensions continue to rise between government entities and their employees.

On April 8, dozens of workers from the Federal Trades Union marched from the union headquarters in downtown Amara to Dijla Road. Security forces broke up the protest, on the grounds that the union had failed to get the necessary government approvals, according to Sarhan Ghalibi, the chairman of the Missan provincial council security committee.
