Nujaifi calls for early elections

BAGHDAD - The speaker of Iraq's Parliament today called for early national elections after a week of violent clashes between government forces and protesters.

"We have an initiative which has been sent to the heads of the political blocs," Usama Nujaifi told a press conference at Parliament Monday, "demanding the resignation of the government."
