Unannounced service cuts for Iraqna users

One of the few mobile phone monopolies in Iraq has surprised consumers by cutting off outgoing calls of more than a million users.

Officials at mobile phone carrier Iraqna, owned by Zain, said an automatic service shut down has affected millions of customers who have not registered their accounts.

The service breaks began earlier this week and restrict such accounts to only receiving calls and text messages.

Long queues were seen around Baghdad offices where customers were going through the process of bringing in the original paperwork or reregistering their sim cards. It will take up to 72 hours to restart the servic...
