KIRKUK - Different factions in the autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) have offered contrasting responses to the recent military escalations and political tensions around Kirkuk.

The Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC), which is strongly affiliated with the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), has publicly raised the alarm that Baghdad is preparing a "major attack" on Peshmerga positions with an "intention to takeover nearby oil fields airport and military base."
