Blacklist enlarged and challenged

By working in the KRG, a Chinese company is barred from bidding for oil fields offered by Baghdad, while a Korean firm is apparently back at work despite oil purchases.

BAGHDAD - Chinese state-owned oil firm Sinopec will be removed from the pre-qualified list of companies allowed to bid on oil fields in a December auction if it completes its purchase of Swiss-Canadian firm Addax Petroleum.

An Iraqi Oil Ministry official confirmed media reports of the blacklist Thursday. He also reiterated SK Energy must make a choice between purchasing Iraqi oil exports or engaging in a Korean consortium in Iraqi Kurdistan’s oil sector.
