Missan heralds oil boom with Halfaya opening

With the official inauguration of its giant Halfaya field, Missan is emerging as Iraq's next big oil province.

HALFAYA OIL FIELD - The Iraqi government officially opened the Halfaya oil field Wednesday, marking the emergence of Missan as a major new source of oil that is on track to become Iraq's second-largest producing province.

"Today we celebrate the completion of an important national achievement, which we've always dreamed of – the opening of this important project," said Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Hussain al-Shahristani, speaking at a ceremony at Halfaya.
