Training needed quickly for oil output increase

As Iraq ramps up production, foreign firms are required to staff up with Iraqis, and qualified workers are in high demand but short supply.

BASRA - Anticipating a fivefold increase in oil production by foreign oil companies contractually required to rely on Iraqi workers, the government is fast-tracking plans to bring modern training back to the oil sector.

"Iraqis are fully capable to be in control over all administrative responsibilities to manage the works of an oil company," said Abdullatif Mohammed, the Director of Training and Development at the Iraqi Drilling Company. "But, since oil projects that are being implemented are on a significantly large scale… local staff has the need to receive rapid and extensive training in order to do the job on time."
