Iraq's environment ministry has started to apply gradual measures to force brick factories to adopt environmental standards after noting that such plants are falling short in this area.
Deputy Minister for Technical Affairs Kamal Latif said all brick factories in the country would be closed if the environment ministry applied its regulations in their entirety.
Bricks factories are spread across Baghdad and several provinces in Iraq. Since 2003 they have not adopted green standards in their work because of the absence of government regulatory agencies.
