Barzani to Obama: support KRG oil policies
Letter to Obama week before inauguration congratulates, says Kurdistan Regional Government backs U.S. in Iraq, and “I seek your support, Mr. President, for our policies.”Massoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, in a previously undisclosed letter to then President-elect Obama, stated the KRG case for oil autonomy and pledged security for "disputed territories."
"We believe that our policies are in the interests of all the people of Iraq," Barzani writes in the January 12 letter, obtained by Iraq Oil Report on condition it is quoted but not reproduced. "We in the Kurdistan Region can play a role" in increasing oil exports and spurring economic development.
