Basra plans for spending spree

Basra government starting to calculate how to spend an extra $600 M expected now that a new law gives each province a cut of the oil, gas and fuel it produces.

BASRA - Basra leaders are now planning how to spend the influx of oil revenue set aside for each oil, gas and fuel producing province. Much of the money will likely fund infrastructure projects to provide basic services to citizens.

Iraq's 2010 budget, passed in February, set aside $1 for every barrel of crude produced or refined and every 150 cubic meters of natural gas produced from a province's fields.
