Basra refinery expansion delayed by contract dispute
The delay is the latest for the project that was supposed to be completed in 2018, and is sorely needed to expand fuel supply, reduce purchase costs, and provide an additional outlet for Iraqi crude output.

BASRA - A $125 million expansion of Basra's Shuaiba Refinery is being held up by a financial dispute with the contractor, TechnoExport, further delaying much-needed expansion of domestic refining capacity.
Three Iraqi Oil Ministry officials have confirmed that the dispute is yet to be resolved, despite visits to the company's headquarters by the head of the South Refineries Company (SRC) in an effort to resume work.
