SULAIMANIYA - Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region still opposes the central government's contract with BP to help halt the production decline in the Kirkuk oil field, even after the Kurdish governor of Kirkuk gave the deal his blessing.

"In practice, the KRG shall neither assist nor facilitate any work or security for BP in the Kirkuk fields until such time that KRG becomes fully engaged as an equal partner, as is required by the Constitution," the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said in a statement Thursday.
