Checklist: the $11B spent on reconstruction by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Gulf Region District highlights the projects from $11B in U.S. funding over nearly seven years in Iraq.

BAGHDAD - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Gulf Region Division utilizes civilians, U.S. forces and contractors in their reconstruction efforts, as well as more than 600 Iraqis work directly for GRD as contractors.

As of Oct. 1, 2009, GRD has spent nearly $9.1 billion completing 5,278 reconstruction projects. Another $2.1 billion is allocated for 450 projects that are underway or have yet to begin.
