Companies, government not concerned with Badra’s Iranian side

Gazprom Neft in talks with Iran to develop other side of Iraqi border field it was awarded in December auction and initialed last week.

BAGHDAD - Iraqi Oil Ministry and development company officials said the outcry following the Iranian-Iraqi dispute over a southern Iraq oil field will not hamper investment in the Badra field, which is believed to cross into Iran.

An executive from Gazprom Neft, the operator in the contract, also said sanctions barring investment in Iran’s oil and gas sector will not prevent development of Badra – which will require cooperation with Tehran – or the development of the Iranian field that continues from Badra, which Gazprom Neft is negotiating.
