Crucial Iraq energy security seeks U.S. focus

As the intensifying campaign by the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) heads into its second year, Iraq is planning a nationwide enhancement of key infrastructure security before the violence can reach the vital oil sector.

The bulk of the new attacks are taking place away from most of Iraq's key oil infrastructure in the south, and ISIS' targets have primarily been Iraqi security forces, institutions of power now associated with the Shia-led government and Sunni areas that the al-Qaida splinter group wants to incorporate into a caliphate.
