Damascus moves to centralize control over Syrian oil sector

SULAIMANIYA - The Kurdish-led Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria (AANES) is losing control of several producing oil fields, signaling a paradigm shift in which the Syrian Transitional Government in Damascus is consolidating authority over the oil and gas sector.

The changes carry significant implications for foreign investment by international oil companies in Syria’s oil and gas sector, as well as for Kurdish autonomy in northeast Syria, and the cross-border flow of oil into the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
