Flooding raises landmine danger

AMARA - Heavy rains and flooding in Missan province may have caused old unexploded ordnance along the Iranian border to move, endangering local residents.

Missan Environment Director Samir Abboud said some of the 5 million shells and landmines in the province - which still remain from the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s – have become dislodged, sending them closer to villages.
