UPDATE: This story has been updated to reflect recent statements of Basra Oil Company explaining the efforts that have been taken to protect the field, clarifying Majnoon’s production levels, and stating that operations at the field have not been affected by recent flooding.

BASRA - Widespread flooding is threatening the state-operated Majnoon oil field, and has already submerged thousands of acres of Basra farmland.

Output at Majnoon has not been affected, due to an emergency response led by the state-run Basra Oil Company (BOC). But local officials warn that further breaches of a nearby dirt berm could put the field's main facilities underwater.
