Production is unaffected, and the police chief says local residents are reacting to belief that oil operations are responsible for recent earthquakes.

NASSIRIYA - Attackers opened fire with machine guns and a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) near a gas-oil separation station at the Garraf oil field in southern Dhi Qar province Friday evening.

The characteristics of the attack do not bear the hallmarks of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) group, and the provincial police chief said residents are upset at a series of recent earthquakes for which they blame oil operations. Three residents of a nearby village have been arrested.
