Iraq approves two IPP power plant deals

<p>Iraq’s Cabinet has approved the grant of investment licenses for two new power plants that together are expected to add 4,500 megawatts to Iraq’s power supply.</p>

DUBAI - Iraq’s Cabinet has approved the grant of investment licenses for two new power plants that together are expected to add 4,500 megawatts to Iraq’s power supply.

The licenses for 15-year, build-own-operate contracts were awarded by Iraq’s National Investment Commission to two Iraqi companies. Shamara Group will build a 3,000 megawatt plant in Rumaila, in Basra province, and Mass Global will build a 1,500 megawatt plant in Besmaya, southeast of Baghdad, according to Thamer Ghadbhan, Chairman of the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Advisors Commission and Karim al-Jumaili, Minister of Electricity.
