Iraq gives nine oil firms bidding rights

Iraq announced nine mostly European and Asian state-owned oil companies have qualified to bid on 11 oil and gas fields or sets of fields.

The bidding process is scheduled for late this year, though a first phase of 8 oil and gas fields tenders, scheduled by the Ministry of Oil to be settled mid-2009, may be delayed.
