Iraq in, Japan out on Nassiriya deal

Iraq and Japanese consortium unable to reach deal on southern oil field after more than a year of talks.

BAGHDAD - Iraq has terminated negotiations with a group of Japanese oil companies to develop the Nassiriya oil field after what was assumed to be a sure deal soured over conflicting expectations.

Iraqi Oil Minister Hussain al-Shahristani said Monday the country would develop the field itself.
