ERBIL - The Iraqi Army, with heavy support from a newly concerted wave of coalition airstrikes, retook tactically important territory in Ninewa province from the so-called Islamic State (IS) group Tuesday - evidence of a reinvigorated effort to pave the way for an eventual assault on Mosul.

"The Iraqi security forces liberated Nasir and pushed ISIS terrorists out of the village this afternoon. The village is now is under full control of the Iraqi forces," said Cpl. Shikak Omar, an officer in the Iraqi Army's 15th Division.
