Halfaya field goes to China

China leads the way, taking on three competitors and winning Halfaya in Missan province, which has occasionally seen Mahdi Army but has been relatively calm.

BAGHDAD - The Chinese National Petroleum Corp. and partners Total and Petronas beat out three other contenders for the giant field, which it was awarded by offering to produce oil at 535,000 barrels per day (bpd) for at least 13 years at $1.40 per barrel profit.

CNPC has a 50 percent with Total and Petronas each at 25 percent.
