Shell steals Majnoon from Total

The Majnoon field was awarded to a Shell-led consortium after a quick bidding war with Total, the presumed favorite.

BAGHDAD - Total was shocked by its better bidding competitor Shell, which offered to produce 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd) of oil from super-giant Majnoon for at least 10 years, and only asked to be paid $1.39 per barrel.

Total offered to produce 1.405 million bpd and wanted to earn $1.75 per barrel.
