Japanese consortium running out of time on Nassiriya

Oil Ministry sets deadline for Japanese oil companies to agree to EPC deal for the Nassiriya oil field, but companies short on money want assurance the three-year deal will lead to something more.

BAGHDAD - When Nippon, Inpex and JGC Corp. meet with Iraqi Oil Ministry officials Jan. 24, it could be their last shot at winning their first entry into Iraq's oil sector.

"The appointment with the Japanese oil companies will be the last day for the talks about Nassriya field," said Iraqi Oil Minister Hussain al-Shahristani this week.
