KRG oil chief optimistic on agreements

Minister says contractors will be paid, exports to reach goal despite hitches, and he’s keeping an eye on takeovers of firms he’s signed.

Ashti Hawrami, the minister of natural resources in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), says the oil companies developing fields that began exporting June 1 will be paid, despite prolonged negotiations with Baghdad.

The central government approved the exports but disputes remain over how to pay private companies in a nationalized oil sector based on contracts the capital does not recognize as legitimate.
