Luaibi, Hawrami to lead oil law negotiations

In its first meeting, a special committee has designated two of its members – the oil ministers from Baghdad and the KRG – to write legislation that could structure Iraq's oil sector.

Iraq's latest attempt to jump-start the passage of oil legislation will again rest in the hands of Oil Minister Abdul Karim Luaibi and Kurdistan's Minister of Natural Resources, Ashti Hawrami, following the first meeting of a special Parliament committee tasked with negotiating a new draft law.

The five-member committee, which also includes three parliamentarians representing Iraq's major political blocs, agreed Sunday that Luaibi and Hawrami should hold private talks and then return to the other members with a proposal.
