New leadership for South Gas Company

BASRA - Ali Salman Majeed has been appointed interim director general of the South Gas Company (SGC), a change in leadership at a state-run company with increasing prominence for Iraq's energy sector and international investors.

The outgoing director general, Hamza Abdul-Baqi, left his post on May 31 after reaching the mandatory retirement age, according to an Oil Ministry statement. Majeed was nominated to lead SGC the following day in a memorandum signed by Deputy Oil Minister for Gas Affairs Izzat Sabir, which was seen by Iraq Oil Report.
